What Dvash is and who makes it

Dvash is a daily Hebrew reader for people who know some Hebrew and want to live in it. Every weekday we publish today's Israeli news in easy Hebrew at four levels, with translation, audio and nikud on every word, plus Israeli songs with line-by-line translation. Dvash (דבש) means honey.

The idea

For people who know some Hebrew and want to live in it, Dvash is the daily Hebrew reader that makes real Israeli news and music readable at your level. Unlike course apps that teach Hebrew from scratch with made-up sentences, and unlike Israeli media that is too hard, Dvash gives you the real thing with a safety net: translation, audio and nikud on every word. Honey is the job: sweeten real Hebrew until the morning news is something you look forward to.

How a story gets made

Every weekday our editors pick a story Israelis are reading, something people will talk about at work and at the dinner table. They write it in Hebrew at four levels, from first steps to advanced, with the same facts in each. Every word gets its meaning, base form and root, and the story is recorded so you can hear it read aloud. By the time you open the app, today's story is ready.

The four levels

Level 1 is for readers with the alphabet and a few hundred words. Level 2 is roughly where a first ulpan leaves you. Level 3 is confident reading with help. Level 4 is close to the original Israeli press. You pick the level for every story, and translation, audio and nikud are there at every level.
