The new series 'Etty' premiered on HOT and YES-VOD.
The series has six episodes.
It is in German and Dutch.
It was created by Hagai Levi, who also created the series 'In Treatment' and 'Our Boys'.
The series is based on the diaries of Etty Hillesum, a young Jewish woman from the Netherlands.

Etty lived in Amsterdam during the Nazi occupation. The series depicts those years. It shows how life for Jews became increasingly difficult.
But the focus of the series is Etty's personal story. The series tells about her fears and her loves. It addresses questions of faith. It shows Etty's inner struggle. The tension between the desire to survive and the desire to help others in need.
Hagai Levi chose not to show Amsterdam as it was during the Holocaust. Instead, Amsterdam appears modern, almost like today. This choice creates a unique atmosphere. It connects Etty's life to our lives today.
Etty Hillesum was murdered in Auschwitz at the age of 29. Along with her, about 75% of the Jews in the Netherlands were murdered. Etty's diaries were published many years after her death. They became an important book titled 'The Sky Within Me'.
