On November 4, 1995, at the end of a peace rally in Tel Aviv, Yigal Amir shot and killed him. Amir opposed Rabin's political approach.
Following the assassination, Israel established a special memorial day for Rabin. Today, ceremonies will be held across the country, and schools will dedicate lessons to his life story and assassination.
This year, the Ministry of Education chose the phrase 'During disagreements - argue responsibly' as the central theme of the memorial day. The goal is to teach that it is possible to disagree, but violence must not be used.
